Istituto Istruzione Superiore ‘E. Majorana – A. Cascino’
The I.I.S.”IS.Majorana-General A.Cascino”, comprises inside the ITI-ITE E.Majorana and the high schools Classic and Scientific “Gen.A.Cascino. Common goal of the curriculum addresses the triennium is to define a professional that can fit into very different production companies and characterized by rapidly changing both from the technological point of view and that of the working time.
In The Triennio dell’I.T.I.There are five addesses: Mechanics, Mechatronics, and Energy Electrical and Electronics IT and Telecommunications-Chemistry, Materials and Biotechnologies. They have the scientific Lyceum where scientific subjects are the most important issues dealt with and Classic languages and subjects.
There are 1089 students and 144 teachers. In this school every year students for the Cambridge and IESOL certifications are being trained using skills and tools asked by this examination to achieve the high levels of European Framework. The school usually builds an English portfolio and every year completes the syllabus with an internship in schools of UK, Malta and The USA.
The school uses all modern strategies and particularly the communicative and emotional approaches with also flipped classroom strategies and cooperative learning to make students practise English effectively. The school works a lot with integrated skills where listening is really important (students watch films directly in English for example) but speaking and interaction are the skills more practised. There are two English lecturers, English mother tongue teachers, who help during lessons supporting activities and giving suggestions.
The school works to e-twinning activities sharing projects with students of all Europe. The methodologies are impronted in creating a friendly atmosphere in the classroom and a joyful contest enjoying English actually. The school is taking part to an e-twinning project with some European countries and to an Erasmus KA2 with Austria and Denmark. In the school there is a drama laboratory and this school belongs to an important National Networking about theatre (OTIS).
The headmistress Lidia Carola Di Gangi has a degree in foreign languages. She speaks fluently French, English and German. She has been principal for 16 years. The foreign language teacher La Mattina Daniela (foreign languages degree) teaches English and Literature at the Classical and Scientific Lyceum. She organizes international projects of the school. She has been a promoter, advisor, and tutor of all the projects listed above.
